Tours from Khao Lak
EXPERIENCE THAILAND WITH MONA
Here you can find out more about the areas we visit on our tours from Khao Lak.
Once a small and quiet village, mostly known among divers as a top dive destination for the Similan Islands, Khao Lak is now an almost 30 km long tourist strip, covering several areas and hosts resorts and hotels in all sizes and price categories, restaurants of all sorts, bars and shops for everything.
Khao Lak is surrounded by amazing National Parks and nature, allowing many different activities in your holidays.
It is a favorite destination for everybody who prefers quiet beaches and nature over bustling towns and night life.
Right in the center of the Khao Sok National Park lays a gigantic, artificial lake called Cheowlan, which was created to provide electricity for southern Thailand but is also used as a water reservoir. The Rajjaprabha Dam (meaning ‘Light of the Kingdom’) got its name in 1987 by the king at the opening ceremony on his 60th birthday. The dam was built in 1982 but it took 5 years till the entire lake was filled up to the actual size of 165 sqkm, creating around 100 islands of sharp limestone cliffs. The deepest parts are 95 m deep and it contains up to 5 million cubic meters of water.
The beauty of this lake is breathtaking!
Khao Sok is located in the Suratthani Province in southern Thailand, in the triangle between Suratthani, Phang Nga and Krabi. The National Park is home to a spectacular primary jungle with a wide variety of flora and fauna and is one of the oldest evergreen rainforests worldwide (about 160 million years).
Takua Pa Old Town was founded in the 13th century, it was one of the big tin dredging and trading centers for more than 100 years what brought a lot of Chinese workers and traders into the city. The city is rich in culture and temples and in close to it is the ‘Little Amazon’ and the stunning Sri Phang Nga National Park.
Phang Nga holds stunning locations such as the Phang Nga Bay, Khao Phing Kan, the island made famous in the 1974 James Bond movie ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’, and Hong Island.
Phuket is packed with top 5 star hotels, amazing temples, a big shopping center collection with malls open until midnight, and unique street markets where night owls and early birds can satisfy their appetite.
The Phi Phi Islands are some of the loveliest in Southeast Asia. Just a 45-minute speedboat trip or a 90-minute ferryboat ride from either Phuket or Krabi, these picturesque islands offer the ultimate tropical getaway. Featuring classic tropical beaches, stunning rock formations and vivid turquoise waters teeming with colorful marine life, it is paradise perfected.
The 6 Phi Phi Islands belong to the Hat Noppharat Thara National Park, what covers about 390 km². They became famous in 2000 when the movie “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed in Maya Bay.
The Similan Islands are located just 70 km west of Khao Lak and are part of the Similan Island Marine National Park, covering an area of 140 km².
The Similans are one of the best-known island groups in the Andaman Sea, mainly because of the wonders that wait beneath the clear blue waters that surround the islands. Generally counted among the 10 most interesting dive areas in the world, this little archipelago has also become a favorite destination for yachts and tour boats.
The Surin Islands Marine National Park holds some of the most breathtaking underwater treasures of the Andaman Sea. The Marine Park includes 5 islands and covers about 141 km² with amazing 80% of it under water! This isolated archipelago lies about 100 km north of Khao Lak and approximately 100 km from the border to Myanmar.
Less known than the Similans and further away, the Surins are less crowded, giving you a more relaxed island and snorkeling experience!
